What Mediate is facing

Should Rocco Mediate (at 47 years, 10 months), who opened the day with a three-shot lead, go on to win he’d be the oldest winner on the PGA TOUR by a year since Kenny Perry at last year’s Travelers Championship.

This, however, is also Mediate’s 193rd start since his last victory, which came at the 2002 Wyndham Championship. This is also the sixth time in Mediate’s career that he’s held the 54-hole lead, though only 18 of 42 leaders or co-leaders going into the final round this year have gone on to win.

The bad news for Mediate today is that he’s 1 over through five holes. The slow start didn’t hurt him too much, however, because Bo Van Pelt, who began the day alone in second, is 2 over and now four shots back of Mediate.
