Mediate proving hard to catch

Several players are putting together low rounds at CordeValle today, but are any of them low enough to overtake current leader Rocco Mediate? Troy Merritt is making the turn at five under for the day after carding a 31 on the back nine. That puts Merritt at six under for the week, still well behind Mediate who is currently 15 under par. The low round, though, could help push Merritt inside the top 125 (currently 126th) of the money list. Also of note, he birdied the Kodak Challenge hole, No. 17, to move one step closer to winning the million dollar prize. If it weren't for a pair of bogeys on the front nine, Chad Campbell might be within striking distance of Mediate. He's carded six birdies today through 13 holes to move to eight under for the tournament. John Daly is the other player at five under for the day so far. He opened with three-straight birdies to jump start his third round. Currently seven under for the tournament, though, he is still quite a ways behind Mediate, with seven holes to play.
