Cliffs of Vroom for Bettencourt

The eighth, ninth and 10th holes at Pebble Beach are called the Cliffs of Doom. The toughest trio of par-4 holes in golf, it's understandable if players feel they'd rather jump into Stillwater Cove than try to navigate that stretch.

But Matt Bettencourt had no problems with those three holes Friday afternoon. He's just birdied all three of them -- by making devilishly long putts at each hole -- to move onto the first page of the leaderboard.

Now at 1 under for the tournament (and 2 under for his round), Bettencourt is just two shots off the lead held by Graeme McDowell.
