Stankowski takes clubhouse lead

This is just the fourth time Paul Stankowski has teed it up on the PGA TOUR this season. So far, he’s making the most of the opportunity. Stankowski is the clubhouse leader after a 5-under 67 in which he made six birdies and just one bogey after hitting 15 greens in regulation.

Of course this isn’t unfamiliar territory for Stankowski, who went to school at UTEP and lives just outside Fort Worth, Texas. Stankowski made just three cuts in nine starts last year on TOUR, finishing in the top 25 twice (one of which came in this event). In the two cuts Stankowski’s made this year, he had a top-15 in one of them, tying for 12th in Puerto Rico.

It’s been a difficult couple of seasons for Stankowski, though. In 2008, he played on a Major Medical because of a shoulder injury that’s plagued him since the mid 2000s. He wasn’t able to earn enough, however, to maintain his status on TOUR. -- Brian Wacker
