Elkington sets the pace

Steve Elkington is a couple of years away from being eligible for the Champions Tour, and a win this week at TPC Four Seasons will enable him to secure his playing privileges until its time for him to join the over-50 set.

Elkington is still one of the better ball-strikers on TOUR, and he's on a roll early in the second round. His four early birdies have him at 8 under, three shots ahead of the field as the second round finally gets under way in the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Joe Durant and Marc Leishman are his closest pursuers at 5 under.

The field finally finished the first round mid-morning on Friday, with seven players (Elkington, Joe Durant, Blake Adams, Jason Day, Michael Sim, Hunter Mahan and Jarrod Lyle) sharing the 18-hole lead at 4 under 66.
