Gay goes low with 63

The best round of the day so far: A 7-under 63 by Brian Gay. That moved him up more than 30 spots on the leaderboard and into the top 5 for now. Given how Gay putted, it’s easy to see why he was able to shoot such a low scoe on what’s been an otherwise difficult day of scoring. Gay, whose career-low is a 62, took just 23 putts Sunday and for the week he should finish in the top 10 in greens in regulation and driving accuracy. It should also give him his first top-10 since last year’s victory at the St. Jude Classic presented by FedEx. -- Brian Wacker
