The Road to East Lake
The TOUR Championship Hot Sheet offers updates from the TOUR Championship, the season finale of the 2018-19 PGA TOUR Season played at East Lake Golf Club, August 21-25.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, the TOUR Championship has a new date!
As part of the PGA TOUR’s restructured schedule, the TOUR Championship will now be played in August instead of September, with the 2019 tournament set for August 21-25.
What does that mean for Atlanta’s sports fans, you ask? There’s no more deciding between golf and football…you get the best of both worlds! #winning
Along with the new date, the TOUR Championship will also unveil a new scoring format to determine the FedExCup champ!
What you need to know: The standings leader heading into the TOUR Championship will start the tournament at 10-under par…yes, you read that right. The next four players will start at 8-under through 5-under, respectively. The next five will begin at 4-under, regressing by one stroke per five players until those ranked Nos. 26-30 start at even par.
You got all that?
After that, it’s simple: Play golf! 72 holes of stroke play to determine the FedExCup champion and a…get ready…$15 MILLION payout. #holymoly
Ask any player on TOUR and they will tell you they define a successful season by whether they make it to East Lake for the TOUR Championship. Right, Justin Rose?
With the top 30 arriving in just seven weeks, there’s plenty of opportunities to jockey for position, but here’s how they currently stand.
Atlantans should recognize that name at the top: Georgia Tech’s finest, Matt Kuchar, who has collected two wins on the season.
They should also recognize the guy sitting in 19th…you know, the one who had thousands of people walking down the 18th fairway with him last year? Yep, Tiger is trending toward another appearance at East Lake. Can you imagine what he’ll have planned for an encore? #GOAT
Introducing The First Tee® of Metro Atlanta! Announced last week, The First Tee® of Atlanta and The First Tee® of East Lake have consolidated in order to serve 145,000 participants across eight Metro Atlanta counties.
As a TOUR Championship charitable beneficiary, this announcement allows the positive impact of this tournament to continue spreading into every corner of Atlanta. As we all know, the PGA TOUR’s season finale is much more than a golf tournament. #giveback
If you want to see this positive impact in action, allow us to introduce you to Jakari Harris.
