Area 313 the Place to be at Detroit’s Rocket Mortgage Classic
DETROIT (May 15, 2019) – The Rocket Mortgage Classic today pulled the wraps off ‘Area 313’ - the signature holes for fan experience and player competition at the Detroit Golf Club. Appropriately named for Detroit’s famed area code, this three-hole stretch will be the epicenter of activity both inside and outside the ropes at the first PGA TOUR event ever to be held in the city of Detroit.
Area 313 is comprised of the 543-yard par-5 14th, the 160-yard par-3 15th and the 450-yard par-4 16th hole. This area of the course will be home to the tournament’s wildest fan atmosphere, offering the best sightlines with general admission stadium seating options and upgraded hospitality venues.
“Area 313 has been designed to be a stretch of the golf course unlike anything else on the PGA TOUR. It is an area where fans can watch the action on three different holes, as some of the world’s best golfers make the difficult decision of whether to gamble on going for the green in two on 14, attacking the flag on 15 and pushing their luck on 16,” said Jason Langwell, Executive Director of the Rocket Mortgage Classic. “All these decisions will be made under the watchful eyes of the fans who will have a front row seat to all the action – either through stadium seating or as part of an upgraded hospitality package. Area 313 will be the central gathering place for watching great golf and enjoying the signature summertime event in Detroit.”
To add even further to the excitement, Area 313 will also feature a charitable component that will give each of the 156 PGA TOUR golfers playing in the Rocket Mortgage Classic a chance to win big for local nonprofits.
The first player to score a 3 on Hole 14 (an eagle), a hole-in-one on Hole 15, and a 3 on Hole 16 (a birdie) – scoring a 3-1-3 along that stretch – cumulatively over the four days of tournament play will win $313,000 to be donated to several youth-based local non-profit partners and one charitable group of the golfer’s choice.
“PGA TOUR pros are really embracing this fun and unique way to raise money for our local youth organizations,” Langwell added. “We anticipate that there will be golfers who might make a birdie on the 16th hole Thursday, then eagle the 14th on Friday, so they’ll be gunning to ace the 15th over the weekend and be the first to record scores of 3-1-3. The added drama will be fun to watch.”
Hospitality options within Area 313 include Club 14 and The ULTRA Club at 15 – both corporate/group hospitality venues – and the LendingTree Lounge, which overlooks the 16th green and offers an upgraded experience for individuals and small groups. Tickets to the LendingTree Lounge have already sold out for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and only have limited quantities available for Thursday.
A list of remaining ticket packages is available exclusively at RocketMortgageClassic.com, with pricing options as low as $10 for daily grounds passes at the Donald Ross-designed Detroit Golf Club. Access to private and shared hospitality must be purchased separately by emailing sponsorship@rocketmortgageclassic.com.
The historic Detroit Golf Club will welcome fans with tickets beginning with player practice rounds on Tuesday, June 25, and the Delta Dental Pro-Am at the Rocket Mortgage Classic on Wednesday, June 26. The 72-hole tournament starts on Thursday, June 27, and concludes on Sunday, June 30.
