When FootJoy released its new Pro/SL shoe in 2016, many of the top players added it to their wardrobes. Players like Adam Scott, Ian Poulter, Kevin Na and Charley Hoffman made the switch from traditional styles with cleats to the sporty and spikeless Pro/SL. During the next two years, more players ranked in the top 100 in the world laced up the Pro/SL compared to any other shoe model and took more than 130 walks to the victory circle.
“Our players can choose from any shoe in our line, so the fact that so many continue to choose Pro/SL, on tours all over the world and in all possible conditions, really validates the product’s performance and our extensive design and development process,” said Richard Fryer, director of Product Management at FJ Footwear.
Now, FootJoy has launched the second generation of the popular shoe. The new Pro/SL features a new wavy design on the upper and an advanced midsole/outsole design. The multi-layer construction uses FootJoy’s lightweight Fine-Tuned Foam™ (FTF) to provide a combination of comfort, stability, and traction. The top layer is in contact with the foot and therefore focuses on comfort. The soft foam insert cradles the foot and provides cushioning for walking 18 holes and beyond. Under the comfort layer is a firmer mid layer that offers stability around the perimeter of the shoe to control the foot during the swing. Then, an outsole with 223 points of traction keeps players connected to the ground, no matter the conditions.
Topping off the new Pro/SL is a high-performance leather created by Pittards® of England. Called Chromoskin™, this leather is soft, lightweight, durable, and completely waterproof. Built on a Laser Plus Last, the Pro/SL features a standard fit across the toe box and instep, which allows the toes to spread out for additional comfort and stability. A slightly narrower heel helps to lock the foot in place, even at TOUR-level speeds. For those looking to dial in an optimal fit, a model with a BOA closure system is available (lead photo) in addition to the traditional laced model (below).
“Of all the shoes I’ve worn throughout my career, these are by far the most comfortable,” said Ian Poulter. “I get great grip in wet and dry conditions, plus with the BOA system, I can dial in the fit and comfort to get exactly what I want.”
Laced versions of the new Pro/SL are arriving on store shelves in a fashionable white/navy/red colorway and a versatile white/silver combo. The BOA model is available in a sleek black/silver setup. Look for additional colorways to be released in mid-January, including laced models in grey/white and black/black and a white/indigo BOA model.
