On January 4th, the PGA TOUR kicks off 2018 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, an event celebrating TOUR winners from 2017. Inspired by the theme of the tournament and one of the most ferocious predators to patrol the islands’ coastline, adidas Golf is dropping a limited edition ‘Niuhi’ (Hawaiian for Tiger Shark) version of its adicross Bounce shoe.
The grey upper of the Niuhi adicross Bounce includes subtle nods to the Tiger Shark in the form of tonal stripes, while the grey to white gradient on the midsole mirrors the shading of the shark’s underbelly. Providing pops of color, and symbolizing the strength, power, and determination that sharks and TOUR pros possess, are striking red accents on the heel and tongue.
“We wanted to design a shoe that embodied a player’s insatiable hunger to win,” said Masun Denison, global footwear director, adidas Golf. “As players head to the islands of Hawaii at the start of the year, the shark became a natural part of the design; not just because this area is one of their natural habitats, but also because the hunger they possess can be similar to these players seeking a win on TOUR - especially after already having a taste of victory.”
The adicross Bounce shoe is part of adidas’ new cross-functional adicross Collection of apparel and footwear. The casual and athletic look coupled with golf-specific features allows the shoe to seamlessly transition from the street to the course.
The offset wrapped saddle of the adicross Bounce is constructed from a microfiber leather and includes multiple rows of eyelets. This customizable lacing system gives players the opportunity to select just the right amount of support to fit their swings. For on-course traction, the shoe also includes a green-friendly spikeless outsole with 181 strategically-placed lugs. This outsole design not only gives golfers grip from tee to green, but it also provides the versatility needed to take the shoe to the street or the gym.
The midsole of the adicross Bounce also boasts a full-length bounce™ foam, engineered specifically for golf. Eye-catching grooves cut into the midsole provide enhanced cushioning, comfort and stability.
The limited edition adicross Bounce Niuhi ($140 USD) will be available for purchase exclusively on adidas.com beginning January 4th at 8:00 a.m. PT. Other colorways of the adicross Bounce ($120 USD) are now available.
The apparel side of the adicross Collection features urban-inspired and non-traditional golf pieces that feed into the modern athleisure street trends. The collection is highlighted by stylish, functional, and comfortable pieces like Henleys, hoodies, polos, 5-pocket pants and shorts, joggers, and Anorak jackets. An Oxford button-up with a cotton/poly/elastane dobby blend puts a fresh spin on a modern menswear piece and allows golfers to easily escape from the office for a quick nine or a driving range session.
“This is something that I’ll wear when I’m traveling to a tournament, practicing at home, or even headed to the gym. It’s just a cool look that I’m really excited about; especially since it’s so versatile being something you can wear on and off the course,” said world No. 1 Dustin Johnson.
adidas’ new ‘no-show technology’ makes those lunchtime practice range trips even easier as the double-knit fabric eliminates the appearance of sweat on the Henleys, t-shirts, and pique polos. Other key technical materials in the collection include a nylon/spandex blend used for the bottoms and Primeknit, which is featured on the Anorak jacket and other polos in the collection. The nylon/spandex blend combines stretch with ease of movement, allowing for a modern, tapered fit. Primeknit is a soft and stretchy proprietary material from adidas that is ideal for enhancing mobility and providing premium comfort and feel.
