This year’s TOUR Championship may have marked the end of the 2016-2017 PGA TOUR season, but it was the debut for Nike Golf’s new Lunar Control Vapor 2 shoe. Nike athletes Jason Day, Paul Casey and Tony Finau laced up this second generation shoe, which was built to provide top-shelf comfort and traction for even the fastest swing speeds.

“When Nike and I first started collaborating on the Lunar Control Vapor more than two years ago, one of our goals was to make the most comfortable golf shoe around,” said Rory McIlroy. “I spend an enormous amount of time on my feet day-in and day-out while on the golf course. That shoe exceeded all of my expectations in terms of comfort and I’m really looking forward to playing in the new Lunar Control Vapor 2.”

The key to the Lunar Control Vapor 2’s comfort lies in the light, soft and responsive full-length Lunarlon sole. Lunarlon is a midsole cushioning system that Nike has employed throughout its footwear collections, including in running, training, basketball and tennis shoes. It consists of two parts that work in tandem with each other. A lightweight foam core spreads impact forces evenly over a large area while a firmer foam stabilizes the softer material and allows it to spring back. To further enhance the comfort of the Lunar Control Vapor 2, Nike designers included a new conforming sockliner for additional cushioning directly under the foot.

Carried over from the first generation model is the Articulated Integrated Traction (AIT) outsole. This unique outsole design was actually inspired by the tread on snowmobiles. The tooth-like tracks create more points of contact with the ground to maximize traction. The AIT system also provides a stable base, allowing players to push off the ground to generate more power during the swing.

“The Lunar Control Vapor 2 is testament to our continued success of comfort and traction, with the perfect blend of stability and natural motion,” said Gentry Humphrey, VP Profile Sports Footwear. “AIT continues to provide maximum ground traction while allowing the outsole to articulate in a motion that mimics the natural movement of the human foot.”

Providing additional support is the NikeSkin technology in the upper, which offers lateral support and also helps minimize stretch. Also, a series of Flywire cables hug the foot as the laces are tightened to lock the foot in place during the swing.

The biggest style changes to the Lunar Control Vapor 2 can be seen on the upper. Nike cleaned up the design by eliminating the large branding element in the toe area and replaced it with a swoosh logo in the midfoot and a tonal text logo on the heel.

The Lunar Control Vapor 2 is now available in three colorways (wolf grey/blue fury, white/black and black/white), plus a limited edition black/white/solar red colorway that was worn by players at the TOUR Championship.
