Most golf apparel collections these days fit into one of several categories: classic, modern, athletic or preppy. Some of the more sophisticated collections manage to successfully blend two or more of these styles together. J.Lindeberg Golf and New York menswear label Bespoken, however, have teamed up to launch a 12-piece English mod style capsule for Autumn/Winter 2015 that encompasses elements of all these styles and is easily the most unique collection you will find in pro shops this season.
Thanks to its clean lines, ultra-modern designs and luxurious performance fabrics, J.Lindeberg has gained a reputation as one of the true trend-setters in the world of golf fashion. This collaboration with Bespoken gives the Swedish brand’s modern golf silhouette a high fashion tweak through British sportswear detailing and a touch of mod sensibility.
“The launch of this capsule collection allows us to continue our mission of bridging fashion and function, and this is the next iteration of that commitment,” said Stefan Engström, CEO of J.Lindeberg. “This collaboration infuses our Scandinavian DNA with a British point of view.”
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Bespoken, here is a brief history. Seven years ago, London-born brothers Sam and Liam Fayed founded the label. Fashion design was in the brothers’ blood at an early age as they honed their crafts working in their father’s business, renowned English shirtmaker Turnbull & Asser. In 2013, Bespoken received GQ’s Best New Menswear Designer Award and the brand shows biannually at New York Fashion Week.
In designing the Bespoken for J.Lindeberg Golf collection, Sam and Liam turned back the clock and drew inspiration from the English mod style of the 1960’s – specifically from two of the biggest rock and roll bands of the era.
“We were really inspired by old photographs of the Beatles and Rolling Stones playing golf in the 60s and 70s,” said Sam Fayed. “They took their personal style to the golf course, and it was interesting to us to see mod-style taken from London streets on to green fairways.”
Wearing pieces that easily transition from the course to life’s other activities is one of the biggest trends in golf fashion today, and this collection from Bespoken and J.Lindeberg taps into this trend. Its effortless looks easily move from bustling city streets to tranquil greens and fairways.
The brilliance of the Bespoken for J.Lindeberg Collection can be seen in its sophisticated fusion of juxtaposing styles, which give the collection a distinctive sartorial depth. Classic-looking glen plaid tartans are combined with modern taped seams, monochromatic contrast details, and refined fabrics, like Loro Piana stretch wool. The pique polos, knit blazers, water-resistant wool varsity jackets and slim cargo pants are elegant and complex, yet simple and easy to wear.
“The taped seams on the tailoring and knitwear, as well as the polkadot print and tartans, are interesting modern ideas for the golf course,” said Liam Fayed. “We wanted the J.Lindeberg guy to have comfortable and functional garments, but lend a versatile sophistication to his wardrobe.”
Completing the capsule collection is a stunning pair of woven leather brogue-style shoes from Nebuloni.
This is J.Lindeberg’s second luxury golf collection. It is an extension of the label’s seasonal golf line that pushes the boundaries of fashion and function while offering a new point of view on the game’s classic designs. The Bespoken for J.Lindeberg capsule collection is arriving in golf shops now, along with J.Lindeberg Golf’s Autumn/Winter 2015 Collection.
