PGA: Round 4 notes

By Elias Sports Bureau Inc.

• During Sunday’s closing round of the PGA Championship, champion Jason Dufner had a stretch of seven consecutive one-putts. Since 1992, no eventual champion has had such a stretch in their closing round. One champion did have such a stretch during their victories. Steve Elkington had such a run in 1995 during the second round at Riviera Country Club.

Dufner has one-putted seven consecutive times three other times on the PGA TOUR.  The 2011 Northern Trust Open, the 2010 Deutsche Bank Championship (8 consecutive) and the 2009Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard.

• Jim Furyk and Jason Dufner, playing in Sunday’s last grouping of the final round of the PGA Championship, each did not record a hole over-par through their first eight holes of action. Since 2003, only in two other majors has the last group of the final round begun in such fashion. The 2011 U.S. Open featuring Rory McIlroy and Y.E. Yang and the 2006 Masters with Phil Mickelson and Fred Couples.
