Justin Thomas sinks a 33-foot birdie on No. 18 at Genesis OpenJustin Thomas holes a 33-foot birdie putt at the par-4 18th hole.
In his first round at the Genesis Open, Justin Thomas hit 7 of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens in regulation, finishing at 6 under for the tournament. Thomas finished his day tied for 4th at 6 under with Brian Stuard; J.B. Holmes is in 1st at 8 under; and Adam Scott and Jordan Spieth are tied for 2nd at 7 under.
After a 298 yard drive on the 503-yard par-5 first, Thomas chipped his third shot to 8 feet, which he rolled for one-putt birdie on the hole. This moved Thomas to 1 under for the round.
At the 199-yard par-3 sixth, Thomas hit a tee shot 146 yards at the green, setting himself up for the 12-foot putt for birdie. This moved Thomas to 2 under for the round.
On the par-4 ninth, Thomas's 109 yard approach to 2 feet set himself up for the birdie on the hole. This moved Thomas to 3 under for the round.
On the 315-yard par-4 10th hole, Thomas reached the green in 2 and sunk a 12-foot putt for birdie. This moved Thomas to 4 under for the round.
After a drive to the the left side of the fairway on the 583-yard par-5 11th hole, Thomas hit his second into the right front greenside bunker, which he successfully hit out from, setting him up for birdie for the hole. This was his 3rd under-par hole in a row and moved Thomas to 5 under for the round.
Thomas got a double bogey on the 479-yard par-4 12th, getting on the green in 4 and two putting, moving Thomas to 3 under for the round.
At the 475-yard par-4 18th, Thomas reached the green in 2 and rolled a 33-foot putt for birdie. This put Thomas at 5 under for the round.
