KUNMING, China—American Charlie Saxon extended his lead at the top of the PGA TOUR Series-China Order of Merit following Sunday’s victory at the Guilin Championship.
The 25-year-old American earned RMB 270,000 in Guilin to increase his winnings to RMB 692,335 through five events. He enters this week’s Kunming Championship at Yulongwan Golf Club as one of the favorites.
Saxon, who finished second on the 2016 Order of Merit to earn a place on last year’s Web.com Tour, has two wins and a second in his last three PGA TOUR Series-China events. He won the Changsha Championship and tied for second at the Haikou Championship in May.
China’s Jin Zhang soared to ninth on the earnings’ chart after the 22-year-old’s runner-up finish in Guilin earned him RMB 162,000 and boosted his season total to RMB202,350. The top-five at the end of the season will earn status on the Web.com Tour, the path to the PGA TOUR.
Korean Todd Baek, champion in Haikou, remained in second place, with RMB 339,150. Baek finished fourth on the 2014 Order of Merit, his last full PGA TOUR Series-China season prior to this one. He qualified for the Web.com Tour, where the Korean played full seasons in 2015 and 2016 before finishing 15th on last year’s Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada Order of Merit.
American Jeffrey Kang (RMB 327,300), China’s Yi Cao (RMB 299,603)—who won the Chengdu Championship and Chongqing Championship in March, respectively—and England’s William Harrold (RMB282,550) round out the top five.
