Lipsky receives two-shot penalty at PGA Championship

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – A matter of feet cost David Lipsky two shots at the PGA Championship.

Lipsky was assessed a two-shot penalty for being late to his 12:43 tee time. He was walking toward the tee but was not in the “area defined as the starting point” at the proper time. Lipsky needed to be inside the ropes surrounding the tee.

Lipsky shot 74 on Friday with the penalty. That gave him a 36-hole total of 4-over 144, which was inside the projected cut line when he finished his round.

Lipsky made bogey on the first hole despite the penalty. He drove his ball into the left rough, then his next shot 2 feet from the hole. He made just one birdie Friday.

Lipsky, 30, played college golf at Northwestern and competes primarily on the European Tour. He has two wins on the European Tour, including the Alfred Dunhill Championship in December. He also finished 10th in the recent World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship. Lipsky owns one Asian Tour title, as well.
