Established as a place for players to start the dreams of their professional careers, more and more aspiring pros are choosing PGA TOUR Latinoamérica as the starting point.
With the vivid image of those who started their careers in Latin America and are now celebrating wins on both the PGA TOUR and the Korn Ferry Tour, a group of PGA TOUR Latinoamérica rookies are looking to follow the paths set by Keith Mitchell, Martin Trainer, Julián Etulain, José de Jesús Rodríguez and many others who have helped in the growth of the Tour while also developing their own games at the next levels.
Patrick Flavin is one of two rookies who has won in this first half of the 2019 season, with John Somers the other. After a successful start to the season, Flavin easily recognizes what he’s gained in these first eight weeks.
“I learned tons of things from my experience in the first half of PGA TOUR Latinoamérica. First I would say the ability to travel all over the world to different golf courses, with different grasses and different elevations presents a huge challenge,” Flavin said. “In order to compete at a high level on Tour, you must be able to adjust to new conditions quickly and be able to study new courses in order to find the best way to play them. With the variety of courses we play throughout the season, every aspect of our game is challenged. I think that this skill will be crucial in my professional career.
“The biggest challenge from the first half was the ability to travel and stay healthy,” Flavin continued. “There is a lot of wear and tear on our bodies when we travel to this many places in this short period of time. It is important that when a tournament starts we are feeling refreshed and excited about competing. We need to be well rested and eat well. Adjusting to theses changes quickly is critical for feeling rested prior to an event.”
Other rookies on Tour are learning the same lessons as Flavin. Including Flavin, these are the 10 best rookie through the first half of 2019.
