DETROIT, Michigan – Nate Lashley, the 2016 PGA TOUR Latinoamérica Player of the Year, had a stellar week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic to secure his first career win on the PGA TOUR. The 36-year old from Nebraska entered the final round in control after rounds of 63-67-63 and posted a 70 to finish the week at 25-under 263. He ended up winning by six strokes to become the fifth PGA TOUR Latinoamérica alum to win on the PGA TOUR this year.
“I'm just thankful I got in the tournament,” said the man who slipped into the PGA TOUR’s first event in Detroit as an alternate on Wednesday.
Lashley entered the inaugural Rocket Mortgage Classic ranked No. 132 in the FedExCup standings with a tie for eighth in the Puerto Rico Open as his lone top-10 finish in 14 starts this season. After cruising to victory on Sunday to collect a winner’s check for $1,314,000 dollars he now ranks No. 44. As a PGA TOUR champion he is exempt thru the 2020-21 season.
With Lashley’s win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, PGA TOUR Latinoamérica alumni have now collected five victories on the PGA TOUR this year:
January 20, 2019 – Adam Long (Desert Classic)
February 24, 2019 – Martin Trainer (Puerto Rico Open)
March 3, 2019 – Keith Mitchell (The Honda Classic)
April 7, 2019 – Corey Conners (Valero Texas Open)

Prior to this season, the only other win recorded by a PGA TOUR Latinoamérica alum belonged to Cody Gribble, who won the Sanderson Farms Championship on October 30, 2016.
Nate Lashley joins Martin Trainer as the only PGA TOUR Latinoamérica alumni who have collected trophies on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and the Korn Ferry Tour before winning on the PGA TOUR.
Nate Lashley is the first PGA TOUR Latinoamérica alum to record a wire-to-wire victory on the PGA TOUR and his margin of victory of six strokes is also the largest by a Tour alum.
Nate Lashley is also the first recipient of the Roberto De Vicenzo Award as PGA TOUR Latinoamérica Player of the Year to win on the PGA TOUR. He claimed the Latinoamérica Tour top honors in 2016 after a season of three victories and seven top-10s in just 12 starts.
