PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - Over the last two years, the Dev Series has established itself as the best way to reach PGA TOUR Latinoamerica. The series of tournaments serves as the springboard for players to begin their paths to the PGA TOUR.
In 2015 the Developmental Series will travel to Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Venezuela, with the possibility of more tournaments in Mexico and Brazil.
Players who finish in the top five in each tournament earn a spot in the Dev Series FINAL in Quito, Ecuador. At the FINAL, players will battle for status on PGA TOUR Latinoamerica. The first five will be granted full status, while Nos. 6-10 will be exempt through the first half of the season. Nos. 11-15 earn conditional status.
Sao Paulo's Rafael Becker finished fifth at the 2013 Dev Series Final to stamp his ticket to PGA TOUR Latinoamerica for the 2014 season. He went on to win the Aberto do Brasil and closed in on a spot on the Web.com Tour.
"We recognize that there are many other events of importance in the region and with our help, they can be organized and developed in a way that can assist in identifying future stars of Latin America. Development Series certainly helps those who want to take these first steps and join what is the path to the PGA TOUR," said Jack Warfield, President of PGA TOUR Latinoamérica.
"It's an excellent way for Latin American golfers to enter PGA TOUR Latinoamérica through a more viable and economically route. They compete in their countries and play for prize money in a FINAL for 15 cards. Bolivia, Paraguay and Ecuador joined last year and it was a huge success that opened the doors to several players from those countries," said the Developmental Series' Henrique Lavie.
A new National Open will be added this year at the Paraguay Open, with the support of the Paraguayan Federation of Golf.
The 2015 season began in February with 97° Abierto del Sur Championship in Mar del Plata, Argentina, where Francisco Bide was crowned in the "Cathedral" of Argentine golf.
