OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Wesley Bryan called it the shot of his life. And once his next shot found the bottom of the cup, his life had changed forever.
Bryan and his playing partners, Grayson Murray and J.T. Poston, had already played 19 holes together on Sunday. They headed to the par-3 17th for the second playoff hole, but that was all they needed.
Bryan hit a 6-iron from 193 yards that was all over the flag, and it ended up 3 feet from the hole. After Murray hit his chip long, and Poston hit his putt short, the door was open for Bryan to win, and he did just that.
“That was the best shot I’ve hit all year. Given the circumstances, in a playoff, I had a feeling someone was going to birdie that hole,” Bryan said. “I had a feeling there wasn’t going to be another hole.”
His clubs have remained the same all season, but he admitted Sunday he just got a new set of irons that he put in the bag on Wednesday. They got worked in well this week, and they also helped lead him to victory, especially with that 6-iron.
“The pin just set up good on the right side, with the wind coming off the right. I didn’t have to worry about missing it off to the right,” he explained. “I made the best swing of the day and was just able to have a little tap-in. It was nice.”
Here are the clubs Wesley Bryan used to secure his third victory of the season, and an instant promotion to the PGA TOUR.
