COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship held a “Pros Fore Patients” activity on the driving range and practice green at Ohio State University Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon, bringing together Web.com Tour professionals and Nationwide Children’s Hospital pediatric cancer patients and survivors.
Professionals including Tony Finau, James Driscoll and Peter Malnati interacted with the kids -- providing instruction on the range, and participating in other activities including hula-hooping and face painting.
Nationwide Children’s Hospital participants included 10-year-old Alexzandria Norman of Dresden, Ohio, who was joined on the range by her mother Jessica. Miniature golf has been a favorite hobby of the two, and the chance to hang out with touring pros was a thrill for both of them.
It was a thrill for the pros, as well.
“Anytime you have an opportunity to give back in a sport that’s given you so much, I think you have to take that opportunity,” Finau said. “I enjoy it. I have kids of my own, so I know what it would mean if I were to have my kids interested in something, and someone else took the time to help them out.”
