After his Wednesday pro-am round at Witch Hollow at Pumpkin Ridge, Carlos Ortiz put an Odyssey counterbalanced putter in his bag for the first time this season, replacing a Scotty Cameron model.
The change worked well, and quickly. Ortiz opened with rounds of 63-66, en route to a one-stroke victory at the WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft, his third win of the season on the Web.com Tour. He ranked T13 for the week in putts per green in regulation (1.667).
“I’m glad I made that change,” Ortiz said. “I putted great this week.”
Ortiz finishes the Web.com Tour Regular Season at No. 1 on the money list, assuring himself of PGA TOUR status for 2014-15. The North Texas grad won earlier this season at the Panama Claro Championship and El Bosque Mexico Championship.
Ortiz becomes the second consecutive Web.com Tour winner to use predominantly Ping equipment, following Martin Piller’s victory last week at the News Sentinel Open presented by Pilot. Here’s a look at Ortiz’ winning bag in North Plains, Oregon:
