Cleveland Golf’s popular line of “Launcher” products were reintroduced to the marketplace in 2017 after a five-year hiatus, and the company is back with new Launcher products this year. This time, however, instead of focusing mainly on higher launch to produce straighter shots, Cleveland is also emphasizing speed with its new Launcher HB Turbo drivers and fairway woods.
“Reintroducing Cleveland Golf woods and irons two years ago has been very successful,” said Brian Schielke, Marketing Director at Cleveland Golf, in a press release. “However, the new Launcher HB Turbo woods represent a huge step up from the previous generation. They’re sleeker, faster, and more forgiving – exactly what all of us avid golfers are looking for off the tee.”
To increase ball speed off the face, Cleveland introduced what it’s calling a new “Turbocharged Cup Face” that has a variable thickness pattern. The cup face is designed to stretch along the crown and sole, and the variable thickness pattern makes certain areas on the face strategically thinner than others. The new face technologies combine to add flexibility at impact and increase COR (coefficient of restitution, a measure of energy transfer) across a larger portion of the face.
As with the 2017 Launcher HB driver, the HiBore crown in the new Launcher HB Turbo driver has a “step” in the crown behind the face to lower the center of gravity (CG). Weight was also saved from the hosel and repositioned lower in the club head. The lower overall CG is designed to increase launch and add forgiveness in the head.
Additionally, the stock Miyazaki C. Kua shaft is designed with a high-balance point that’s “easier to swing fast,” according to Jeff Brunski, Vice President of Research and Development at Cleveland Golf.
The new Launcher HB Turbo driver is available for $349.99 in both a standard option (9 and 10.5 degrees) and a DRAW option (10.5 degrees). The Launcher HB Turbo fairway woods (15 and 18 degrees) will be available for $229.99 each. The drivers and the fairway woods will hit retail on October 4.
