First look: Srixon's second-generation Q-Star Tour golf ball
1 Min Read
For Srixon's Tour staff, Z-Star remains the ball of choice on the PGA TOUR. But for those players who have moderate swing speeds below 95 miles per hour, but still want the performance and feel of a Tour-level golf ball, the company's new Q-Star Tour offers a unique blend of greenside control and distance in a lower-compression version.
The three-piece Q-Star Tour (available in Pure White and Tour Yellow) is built with a third-generation Spin Skin coating — the same coating applied to the Z-Star line — that's softer and more elastic for a responsive feel at impact. The unique molecular coating structure improves greenside spin by increasing friction between the ball and club surface.
The Urethane cover features a redesigned 338 "Speed Dimple Pattern," which uses five different dimple sizes as opposed to the previous version that had seven.
Reducing the number of dimple sizes makes the ball more aerodynamic and allows it to flight better in windy conditions with more control.
Golfers will also see a reduction in drag and increased lift with the new dimple pattern.
The ball's Energetic Gradient Growth Core gets gradually firmer from the center to the outer portion in an effort to improve ball speed and launch, while also lowering driver spin. From a compression standpoint, the second-generation Q-Star Tour is three compression points lower than its predecessor.
Srixon's Q-Star Tour launches Sept. 1 and retails for $30 per dozen.
