BETHESDA, Md. — Jon Rahm will be playing for a paycheck for the first time in his golf career at Quicken Loans National. The top-ranked amateur in the World Amateur Golf Rankings will officially turn professional this week after receiving a sponsor's exemption into the field.

Rahm, who earned low amateur honors with a T23 finish at the U.S. Open, will make his first pro start as a member of TaylorMade-adidas Golf's Tour staff after agreeing to terms on a deal that will see him play the company's clubs (13), ball, and wear Adidas apparel.

During his pre-tournament press conference at Congressional, Rahm said he didn't take the equipment process lightly, testing different clubs throughout the Spring semester at Arizona State University.

"I got to a point in my life where I needed to try all the products to know which one fit me the most, and throughout the year I've been playing with all different clubs," Rahm said. "I've been switching wedges, switching drivers, switching woods -- at one point in my room I had way too many golf clubs with all the sets."

What ultimately sold Rahm on TaylorMade was the M2 driver, a club he used to average 306 yards off the tee with at Oakmont, which was good enough for third-best in the field.

"I tried TaylorMade and I was really impressed with the driver, I really liked the driver," said Rahm. "I felt like TaylorMade products could make me the best player I can be, so that's why I chose to go with them."

In addition to holding the top spot in the WAGR, Rahm won the Ben Hogan Award and the Mark H. McCormack Medal in 2015 and finished his collegiate career with 11 wins, second-best in school history behind Phil Mickelson's 16.

Former Oklahoma State University sensation Jordan Niebrugge became the first American golfer since Tiger Woods (1996) to win the silver medal at The Open Championship — given to the low amateur in the field — with his T6 finish last year at St. Andrews.

"The thing that sticks out the most was walking up 18 the last day with Sergio [Garcia] and with everybody on all sides," Niebrugge said of his Open Championship experience. "It was pretty special. [Sergio] just told me to never forget this because, you know, you don't really get to see this type of stage too often."

Niebrugge, who returned to school for his senior year instead of turning pro, was a two-time Walker Cup selection and won the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, Wisconsin State Amateur and Western Amateur during his time in Stillwater, Oklahoma,

Niebrugge received a sponsor's exemption into the Quicken Loans National field and will make his pro debut with 10 TaylorMade clubs, Tour Preferred X golf balls and Adidas apparel.
