Callaway's MD3 Milled W-Grind and C-Grind wedges will soon be available in three new loft options: 50-W, 52-W and 64-C degrees.
The new 50- and 52-degree wedges come with Callaway's wide sole that's become a popular option for players on TOUR in the last few years.
Introduced at the 2015 John Deere Classic, the wide sole is playable in softer conditions and all types of bunkers; it also helps golfers from digging too much into the turf through the addition of effective bounce.
The gap wedges are designed for golfers with a steep angle of attack that like to flight shots low and make an aggressive pass through the ball.
Through consumer feedback, Callaway also added a 64-degree with a C-Grind to the MD3 Milled lineup for the first time. The re-designed C-Grind is a very versatile grind that has additional relief on the heel and toe of the club. The curved leading edge sits on the ground longer, allowing players to hit open face shots without having the bounce come into play.
Used by a number of TOUR players — Phil Mickelson carries a course-dependent 64-degree wedge at times — the high-lofted wedge works on short-sided shots where the ball needs to get up and down in a hurry.
The 30V grooves on the 50- and 52-degree wedges are the least aggressive in the lineup and are designed for shots that require a steep angle of attack into the ball and less spin. The 5V groove on the 64-degree features Callaway's widest groove and steepest side wall for maximum spin.
Four green weight ports were added to the back of the head to help reposition weight behind the face for better shot-making, especially from the deep rough.
All three MD3 Milled loft options (50, 52 and 64 degrees) will be available June 3 in two finishes (Satin Chrome and Matte Black) and retail for $130.
