PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Mitsubishi Rayon's CK Series Tensei shaft line continues to expand with the addition of a high balance point Orange prototype that was recently introduced at THE PLAYERS Championship .
The inclusion of Orange gives Tensei four different profiles: Red (high launch), Blue (mid launch), White (low launch) and Orange (low launch). Although White and Orange have similar designs, the Orange prototype has more mass and a center of gravity that's positioned in the handle.
The shaft marks the first time Mitsubishi has introduced a high balance point profile with low launch and spin characteristics. The multi-material shaft is made from 11 different prepreg materials, including a low resin content (LRC) prepreg in the lower third that helps improve dispersion.
According to Mitsubishi, LRC has 13 percent more carbon fiber (23 percent versus 33 percent) than standard prepreg, which creates more consistent performance, increased stability and strength, and better feel at impact.
To reduce spin, boron was added to the tip section of the shaft. The chemical element has been used in other shaft offerings on the market — Mizuno also utilized the material in recent irons — to stabilize the structure and strengthen the tip without adding overall weight.
A carbon-kevlar weave was also added to the butt section that maximizes feel and feedback by smoothing out the bend profile and filtering out unwanted vibration.
