Bubba Watson fired a final-round 3-under 68 to win the Northern Trust Open for the second time in the last three years.
The big-hitting lefty hit only 50 percent of his fairways (T50) and averaged 295.4 yards (T16) at Riviera, but when it counted, he executed two of the most important tee shots of the tournament with his PING G driver.
His 333-yard drive on the par-5 17th set up a must-make birdie to take a one-shot lead; he then followed up the big drive with a 301-yard poke that found the fairway on the always difficult 18th hole.
After using G30 for 18 months, Watson transitioned into G earlier this year at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. The club features PING's Turbulators on the crown that improve aerodynamic efficiency by significantly delaying airflow separation during the swing to improve clubhead speed.
A new addition to the club is the company's Dragon Fly design that was inspired through research into the exoskeleton structure of dragon fly wings. The rib-like design on crown allows for a thinner, more stable structure.
A Vortec port was also added in the rear of the head that mimics the wing design currently found on the back of an 18-wheeler, improving stability and reducing head drag.
Watson currently ranks 4th on TOUR in driving distance (314.7 yards) and 6th in total driving (90) with the new club.
