The Masters is just around the corner and the first major of the year gives apparel brands the opportunity to showcase key pieces from their new spring collections on the best players in the world. This is certainly true of Webb Simpson's apparel script from IZOD Golf. Expect to see Webb teeing it up at Augusta in the brand's latest high tech fabrics and classic looks.

But what goes into creating apparel scripts for the world's best? How far in advance does the process start? How do players influence the designs they will be wearing?

I had the opportunity to get the inside scoop from Mark Kaniuk, Design Director at IZOD Golf. See what he had to say about Webb's influence on the colors and designs, how Webb's final round outfit was selected and why the seersucker pants we'll see in the opening round bend traditional fashion rules.

Style Insider: From a style standpoint, what can we expect from Webb Simpson at the Masters?

Mark Kaniuk: Webb Simpson is poised to deliver in Augusta with a clean and classic American look. We wanted Webb to represent true and classic IZOD and nothing does that better than red, white and blue.

SI: Walk us through the process of creating Webb Simpson's apparel script?

MK: Webb’s looks have been selected from IZOD Golf Spring ‘14 collection and were conceptualized over a year ago. We’re in the second year of our partnership with Webb, so we are learning more and more about his personal taste and style every day.  Webb has a fantastic eye, so close attention is paid to every detail when styling his looks. Webb wears many colors well and prefers bold yet classic and refined patterns.

SI: For the final round at the Masters, players tend to either go with a favorite color or with a look that will complement the green jacket. What will we see from Webb in the final round?

MK: For Webb’s final round at the Masters we are going super classic.  His favorite polo is our solid Navy Pique Polo with tipped collar and sleeve which he’ll pair with his Slim Fit White pants. Webb looks and feels great in this signature shirt and pants combination.

SI: Conditions at Augusta in the spring can be variable. We've seen temperatures in the 50s some years and in the 80s other years. What challenges does this unpredictability present when selecting fabrics and colors for Webb's Masters script?

MK: Weather conditions do present a challenge and we give Webb a lot of options so he’s prepared for whatever Mother Nature brings the players’ way.  He has vests, classic cardigans, and long sleeve sweaters to layer appropriately as needed.  Webb’s favorite top layers tend to be the cardigan or V-neck Sweater.  He has a great feel for what works well and we can always count on him to put together stellar looks incorporating our seasonal palettes.

SI: What's your favorite look of the week from Webb's apparel script? Why?

MK: Our favorite look is the Wednesday Par 3 Competition look. Navy American flag pants with Red chest stripe polo.  We love this look because it’s fun, sporty, and All-American.  Our seersucker pants also deserve a mention. Although the tournament is played before Memorial Day, and with all due respect to traditional fashion and our friends in Augusta, IZOD isn’t afraid to bend the rules every now and then.
