Each week, PGATOUR.COM contributor Vartan Kupelian will size up the field and provide his top 5 players going into the tournament, based on factors such as the player's strengths, the course setup, recent performances, etc.
This week’s SAS Championship at Prestonwood Country Club is the final regular season event on PGA TOUR Champions.
It’s the last opportunity to finish in the top 72 and qualify for the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. That means there will be as much action near the bottom of the leaderboard as at the top, where Bernhard Langer continues to lead the race in pursuit of a fourth straight Charles Schwab Cup victory.
There’s another way to reach the playoffs and that’s through Wildcard Weekend. It will be given to a player who posts a top-10 finish in Cary, N.C., but finishes outside the top 72 on the money list. Only one wildcard is available and if it is awarded, the successful player would supplant No. 72.
Doug Garwood is the defending champion at the SAS Champion. A final round 64 gave him a 4-shot victory over Langer last year.
