Champions Tour Regional Qualifying was conducted at three sites last week - Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, Calif., Orange County National Golf Center & Lodge in Winter Garden, Fla., and Woodforest Golf Club at Fish Creek in Montgomery, Texas. Former PGA TOUR player Lance Ten Broeck shot 277 over four rounds to post the best score in Texas. Others advancing in Texas included Santiago Luna and Miguel Martin, both former European Tour winners. In Florida, last year’s Qualifying School medalist Gene Jones (275) won by a stroke over Bob Friend, who played golf at LSU with major champion David Toms (276). A further shot back was Doug Dunakey (277), who once shot 59 on the Tour in 1998. Damon Green, caddie for former Masters champion Zach Johnson, also advanced to the final stage via the Florida site. At the California site, Jeff Brehaut and Scott Dunlap shared first place with a 282 total, while T.C. Chen, famous for his double-hit at the 1985 U.S. Open won by Andy North, was among those who also advanced.

Four Champions Tour professionals competed in last week’s McGladery Classic on the PGA TOUR. Jose Coceres and Vijay Singh missed the cut by a stroke, while Fred Funk and Mark Calcavecchia missed by two.

The Final Qualifying Stage at TPC Scottsdale – Champions Course (Nov. 19-22) is scheduled to be 78 players.
