Field Study: Schwab Cup Championship

The top 30 players on the Champions Tour money list have advanced to the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, Nov. 2-6 at TPC Harding Park.

Players qualified via the money list, while Schwab Cup points will determine the winner of the $1 million first-place annuity. Double points are available and 880 points will go to the winner of the tournament.

Has caught fire late in the season with five straight top-10s including his first win at the Boeing Classic. Second in Schwab Cup points.
4 Jeff
Tenth in points but fourth in money thanks to a T6 and T12 in majors. Won Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach in June.
5 Russ
Missed two and a half months midseason with a wrist injury; won Senior Open Championship shortly after returning. Fifth in money and points.
6 Peter
Third in points despite still searching for a win. Lost in a playoff at Regions Tradition to Lehman and at Songdo to Jay Don Blake.
7 Nick
Played better in first half of the season, finishing in the top-3 in three consecutive events including a win at the Toshiba Classic.
8 Mark
Won twice in 2010 but not yet in 2011. Finished second at U.S. Senior Open Championship and was part of three-man Songdo playoff.
9 Olin
Opened year with five straight finishes of T8 or better, then picked up first Champions Tour win at the U.S. Senior Open Championship.
10 Jay Don
Enjoying best season on Tour with more than double his 2010 earnings, plus a first win at the Songdo IBD Championship.
11 Michael
Won his first start after age 50, in 2009 at Senior PGA, but still seeks win No. 2. Runner-up at TPC Harding Park last year after third-round 61.
12 Fred
Schwab Cup Championship will be just his 10th start. Has made most of previous nine, with two wins and five top-10s.
13 David
Paired with Mark McNulty to win Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, then a month later lost to Tom Watson in Senior PGA Championship playoff.
14 Mark
Picked up third Champions Tour win in June at Greater Hickory Classic at Rock Barn, has five top-5 finishes overall.
15 Kenny
Got emotional first victory at SAS Championship, winning one day after sister's death. Narrowly lost Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf with Scott Hoch.
16 Jay
Two-time Schwab Cup winner watched son Bill win FedExCup and TOUR Championship in September. Got 15th Champions Tour win at 3M Championship
17 Corey
The best putter on Tour is so far winless, though finished T8 or better in three majors including a T3 at the Senior Open Championship.
18 John
Turned 50 in June and won in his third start, at Dick's Sporting Goods Open. Leads Tour in driving distance at 293.4 yards.
19 Tom
Still one of the Tour's best at 61; won Senior PGA Championship in a playoff and finished T3 at the Senior Open Championship. Second in GIR behind Lehman.
20 Rod
Canadian has played himself into security on Tour after a year that includes four top-10s. Making first start at TPC Harding Park.
21 David
Opened season with seven finishes of 18th or better in eight starts including T2 at Mississippi Gulf Resort. T3 at 2010 Schwab Cup Championship.
22 Chien
Taiwan native hasn't played quite as well as rookie season of 2010, but always a threat with his putter. Second at Montreal Championship
23 Bernhard
Defending Schwab Cup champion injured thumb in freak bike accident in March and missed half the year, but won ACE Group Classic and fared well in majors.
24 Joey
Still winless after four years on Tour but also making fourth straight appearance in season finale. T4 in greens in regulation.
25 Chip
Enjoying best season on Champions Tour with four top-10s and two thirds. Making first appearance at Schwab Cup Championship.
26 Hale
Two-time Schwab Cup champion is oldest to qualify for season finale, at age 66. Has shot age twice this year and set top-10 mark. He has 205 in 377 starts.
27 Tommy
Will face uphill battle at TPC Harding Park -- no player has made it their first Tour win -- but was second two starts ago at Insperity Championship.
28 Loren
Two-time Schwab Cup winner needs win here to continue six-year streak of at least one win per year. Best finish was third at Regions Tradition.
29 Brad
Noted grinder last won on Tour in 2007. Has six top-10s this season including two thirds. Finished third and T3 at TPC Harding Park in 2008-09.
30 Tom
Played way onto 2012 PGA TOUR with a T3 at CMN Hospitals Classic. Six top-10s in 15 starts on Champions Tour this year.
