Lee McCoy wasted no time in introducing himself to the Mackenzie Tour in a big way, winning the season-opening Freedom 55 Financial Open by a record-setting eight shots. The win was one of four top-10s on the season for the University of Georgia alum, who went on to finish sixth on the Order of Merit and earn an exemption to the Final Stage of Web.com Tour Q-School.
Below is a background on McCoy and an outlook for his performance at the Aruba Cup.
BACKGROUND: McCoy was a three-time NCAA All-American at Georgia and represented the United States at the 2015 Walker Cup. In 2016, he thrilled hometown fans in Palm Harbor, Florida by finishing solo fourth as an amateur at the PGA TOUR's Valspar Championship, outduelling fellow competitor Jordan Spieth on the final day.
BY THE NUMBERS: McCoy's excellent driving and typically aggressive strategy off the tee puts him in position to make birdies by the bunch on par-4s and par-5s, making him one of the Tour leaders in red numbers.

TOP MOMENT OF 2017: Cruising with a seven-stroke lead on the 72nd hole of the Freedom 55 Financial Open, McCoy closed out his first Mackenzie Tour win in style by knocking a hybrid from 230 yards onto the par-5 18th green in two. Knowing he had hit a purely struck shot to finish off his win, McCoy let loose a very saucy club twirl and walked after the shot, adding a memorable moment of flair to the first event of the Mackenzie Tour season.
