    First Shot to Fight Cancer

    Tournament Officials announced today the third annual ceremonial first tee shot, named First Shot to Fight Cancer.  The shot will mark the beginning of tournament competition for the 2009 Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational at The Ohio State University Golf Club - Scarlet Course. The First Shot to Fight Cancer will occur at 6:45am on Thursday, July 30, immediately prior to the first professional starting time. Professional starting times for Thursday and Friday begin at 7:10am on tee Nos. 1 and 10.

    Hitting the First Shot to Fight Cancerat the 2009 Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational will be 13 year old Akeia Evans of Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Akeia was 11 when she was diagnosed with a relatively rare, fast growing, and highly malignant tumor in her eyelid called Rhabdomyosarcoma. After 22 weeks of weekly chemotherapy at Nationwide Children's Hospital and five weeks of daily radiation therapy, Akeia is now in remission and looking forward to cheerleading and attending the 8th grade this fall.
