    First Shot to Fight Cancer

Tournament Officials announced today the creation of a ceremonial first tee shot, named First Shot to Fight Cancer.  The shot will annually mark the beginning of tournament competition for the Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational. The inaugural First Shot to Fight Cancer will occur at 6:45am on Thursday, July 12, immediately prior to the first professional starting time. Professional starting times for Thursday and Friday begin at 7am on tee numbers 1 and 10.

Hitting the initial First Shot to Fight Cancer at the 2007 Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational will be 15 year old Chase Meacham of Upper Arlington Ohio. Chase was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer most commonly found in teenage boys, in his left knee in February of 2006. He has since endured rounds of chemotherapy and an array of procedures that have been difficult, painful and invasive, but ultimately successful. Recent scans indicate that Chase is cancer free.

Chase is a high school student at St. Charles Preparatory School and an avid golfer. Together with his family he is active in legislation to eliminate pediatric cancer and recently spoke in Washington D.C. to a bipartisan group of congressional leaders to introduce the Conquer Childhood Cancer Act of 2007.
