When it came down to it Sunday at the Utah Championship presented by Zions Bank, Nicholas Lindheim hung around long enough – with minimal mistakes – to emerge a champion.
Lindheim, who admitted after his win that if he didn’t retain Web.com Tour status for 2017 he would pursue a career on the PGA teaching side of things as opposed to staying a touring professional, just did everything right this week.
“I drove it decently well,” he said. “And my short game was on point this week.”
“The key for me this week was managing my game,” Lindheim continued. “I played for pars on holes where I couldn’t necessarily get to. I just gave myself opportunities and if I missed, I missed in the right spot.”
Lindheim, who doesn’t have an equipment contract this year, used a mixed bag to get the job done this week.
Here’s what was in Lindheim’s bag at the Golf Club at Thanksgiving Point, just outside Salt Lake City:
Driver: TaylorMade R15, 10.5 degrees
3-wood: TaylorMade M1, 17 degrees
Hybrid (21 degrees): Adams DHY
Hybrid (24 degrees): Adams DHY
Irons (5-9): Titleist CB
Wedges: Titleist Vokey – 48-degree (F-Grind); 50-degree (F-Grind); 54-degree (M-Grind); 60-degree, bent to 59 (K-Grind prototype)
Putter: Odyssey Versa Jailbird
