AKRON, Ohio -- Rory McIlroy is back on top.
After winning the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational -- carding a 4-under 66 to roar past Sergio Garcia in the final round at Firestone Country Club on Sunday -- McIlroy is on top of the golf world, claiming his second straight victory and the No. 1 world ranking in the process.
McIlroy, who finished at 15 under and moved to No. 3 in the FedExCup standings by gaining 550 points for his victory, birdied four of his first five holes to blow past Garcia (71) right out of the gate. He made it stick, using some impressive drives off the tee, coupled with some clutch putting down the stretch for a two-shot victory over Garcia. Marc Leishman finished third at 12 under.
McIlroy needed to win and have previous No. 1 Adam Scott finish outside the top five. Scott carded a final-round 71 to finish tied for eighth.
