Jason Day has withdrawn from next week's THE PLAYERS Championship because of a lingering left thumb injury.
"Day suffered a slight setback while playing the Masters and the thumb has been a bit slow to heal. He is still a few weeks away from resuming normal golf activities," Day's agent, Bud Martin, said in a statement.
Day is No. 22 in the FedExCup after winning this year's World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship. It was Day's second PGA TOUR victory. He has made the cut in two of four previous THE PLAYERS starts, including a career-best T6 in 2011. He finished T19 last year at TPC Sawgrass.
Players have until 5 p.m. Eastern today to commit to THE PLAYERS.
