HUMBLE, Texas – Matt Kuchar will take a four-shot lead into the Shell Houston Open’s final round after shooting 4-under 68 at the Golf Club of Houston on Saturday.
He is at 15-under 201 (66-67-68) and will play in Sunday's final group at 9:30 a.m. local time with Cameron Tringale (69) and Sergio Garcia (73), who are both at 11 under par. Garcia was the tournament's 36-hole leader. Tringale and Kuchar are both Georgia Tech alums.
Kuchar made two bogeys Saturday, at Nos. 9 and 18, and has made just three bogeys this week. He leads the field in greens in regulation this week, missing just six greens in three rounds. He hit all 18 greens in the first round, and missed just one green Saturday.
He finished the third round by three-putting from approximately 40 feet.
"It's a bummer to three-putt the last one," Kuchar said. "My speed got a little off there, ... but all in all I putted well. I'm not at all disappointed with the way I putted or the way I played."
Kuchar is seeking his seventh PGA TOUR victory and first since last year’s Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance. He finished fourth at last week's Valero Texas Open after being tied for the lead with nine holes remaining.
"It's a nice position to have played well last week, to have been in the last group with a chance to win and again to come back this week, completely different course and have another shot to win," Kuchar said.
