No, the third round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open wasn't as easy as the first 36 holes for Bubba Watson. But behind some strong wedge play and crucial par saves, Watson finds himself leading through 54 holes with an eye on his first PGA TOUR victory since the 2012 Masters.
Watson carded a 3-under 68 to take a two-shot lead over Kevin Stadler (67) before another record crowd at TPC Scottsdale on Saturday in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Watson had plenty off wayward drives on the back nine, but managed to escape with pars on Nos. 11, 13 and 15. On the 17th, he again found the desert off the tee before knocking his 52-yard approach to 11 feet and making the birdie.
He two-putted for par on the 18th to finish at 15 under.
A record 189,722 fans turned out on Saturday.
