Jordan Spieth birdied four of his final five holes to grab a share of the lead after a first-round, bogey-free 7-under 66 at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions on Friday at Kapalua.
Spieth, coming off a 2013 season when he won PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year honors, joined Webb Simpson, Chris Kirk and Michael Thompson at the top.
In his only other start of the 2013-14 season, Spieth finished 17th at the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions. He totaled nine top-10s during his rookie season, including his first victory at the John Deere Classic.
