The University of Texas announced Wednesday that Taylor Funk, the son of former THE PLAYERS Championship winner Fred Funk, has signed to play college golf for the Longhorns next year. Taylor Funk is No. 22 in the Class of 2014, according to Golfweek magazine. He is expected to enroll at Texas in January.

Funk joins a Texas recruiting class that includes U.S. Junior Amateur champion Scottie Scheffler, the nation's top-ranked junior.

Funk is caddying for his father at this week's OHL Classic at Mayakoba; Fred Funk's eighth and final PGA TOUR win came at the inaugural OHL Classic in 2007. Taylor Funk has caddied for his father for the past two years.

The younger Funk won the 2013 Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2A title by three shots on Oct. 29-30. He also won a 2013 Collegians World Tour event earlier this year at TPC Sawgrass, where his father won the 2005 PLAYERS.

Texas won the 2012 NCAA Championship behind Jordan Spieth and is currently No. 18 in Golfweek's college rankings. Beau Hossler, who starred at the 2012 U.S. Open, is a freshman on the team.
