Hideki Matsuyama withdrew from the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions on Friday, citing a bad back.
It marked the second time the 21-year-old Japanese sensation has had to withdraw. He also pulled out of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open prior to the first round because of illness.
Matsuyama had two birdies and a bogey in his opening-round 1-under 71 Thursday at Sheshan International Golf Club and withdrew before the start of his second round.
