ATLANTA -- Tiger Woods begins Friday's second round of the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola in next-to-last place in the 30-man field. In the seven-year history of the FedExCup Playoffs, that's the worst starting position of any No. 1 seed going into the second round at East Lake (see chart below).
It's certainly unfamiliar territory for Woods. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the only other time Tiger finished in the bottom two after any round of a PGA TOUR event since turning pro was in 1998, when he finished the second round of the TOUR Championship in last place. (As an amateur, he was tied for last place after the third round of the 1995 Masters.)
Woods opened with a 3-over 73 on Thursday, failing to make a birdie for just the fourth time in a round in the last 10 years.
Woods ties off with Jason Dufner at 11:40 a.m. ET. Once he tees off, you can click here to follow Tiger's round on Shot Tracker. And let us know how you think Tiger will play in Friday's second round by joining the discussion below.
