Breakdown: Jim Furyk's 59

PGATOUR.COM Staff

Jim Furyk shot 12-under 59 on Friday at the BMW Championship. He birdied two of his final three holes -- closing his round by making a 3-foot, 3-inch birdie putt on Conway Farms' ninth hole --  to become the sixth player to shoot 59 in a PGA TOUR event.

Furyk got off to a hot start, shooting 8-under 28 on his opening nine holes, the back nine at Conway Farms, after making six birdies and holing out from 115 yards for eagle on the par-4 15th.

Furyk was 11 under par after 13 holes at the par-71 Conway Farms after birdies at Nos. 2-4. His momentum slowed after he three-putted the par-4 fifth hole for his only bogey of the day, but he made birdies at Nos. 7 and 9 to become the sixth player to shoot 59 in a PGA TOUR event. He completed the 59 by hitting his 103-yard approach shot at No. 9 to 3 feet, 3 inches.
