Louis Oosthuizen may start hitting balls as early as this week as he tries to return from injury in time for the Presidents Cup, International Team captain Nick Price said on Thursday. Oosthuizen last played at the John Deere Classic in July while recuperating from lingering neck, back and hip injuries.
“I spoke to him Monday, I had about an hour on the phone with him,” Price said. “He's had this injury now since April I believe, just right after Augusta. Now he's going to start hitting balls either the end of this week or middle of next week, he's going to start pitching and that.
“He's very confident that he'll be okay. He told me he's going to work really hard and he's playing the week before at the Dunhill Links in Scotland, so I know he'll put in the work, I just hope he's healthy enough.”
Oosthuizen, No. 5 in the International Team standings, will be a Presidents Cup rookie if he participates. He will be replaced by the highest-ranked player in the International Team standings not yet on the team if he cannot play.
