GREENSBORO, N.C. – Nick Watney has a new coach as he heads into his title defense at next week’s The Barclays. Watney is working with instructor Todd Anderson, whose other students include Brandt Snedeker and Billy Horschel.
Watney and Anderson were first spotted together at last week’s PGA Championship. Watney said they are going to work on “quite a lot of stuff.”
“It’s going to be different,” Watney said after shooting 2-over 72 in Thursday’s first round at Sedgefield Country Club. “In this game an inch can feel like a mile sometimes. I think it will be good in the long run. It’s pretty simple, the logic of it, but the feeling doesn’t feel so simple to me.”
Watney is No. 59 in the FedExCup standings. Just two years ago, he led the FedExCup entering the Playoffs. Watney will play the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, CIMB Classic and World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions after the Playoffs. Watney also is the defending champion at the CIMB Classic.
