A seven-point lead isn't as big as it sounds, at least when it comes to the Modified Stableford Scoring System.
That's the advantage Gary Woodland has going into the final round of the Reno-Tahoe Open, where he'll tee off in the day's final pairing with Brendan Steele at 4:40 p.m. ET.
Woodland has now carried the lead into the final round on the PGA TOUR twice. The first time came at the 90-hole 2011 Humana Challenge, where he shared the 72-hole lead with Jhonattan Vegas before a final-round 3-under 69 led to a runner-up finish after losing in a playoff to Vegas.
This season has been up and down for Woodland -- he's made the cut in his last 15 starts, but he's also looking for his first top 10 of the year. He also came into the week 116th in FedExCup points.
It would also be the second victory of his career and first since the 2011 Tampa Bay Championship.
