Behind a half-dozen birdies, an eagle and just two bogeys, Josh Teater earned 15 points to take the lead at the Reno-Tahoe Open, where the Stableford Scoring System is in use.
Each of the las two years, Teater has finished in the top 10 in Reno.
Teater is one clear of Gary Woodland and James Driscoll, while Greg Chalmers is another point back.
Chalmers came into the week on the FedExCup Playoffs bubble at 118th in the standings. He's currently projected to move to 102nd.
Seven others, including Bud Cauley, are within five points of the lead. Cauley came into the week 129th in FedExCup points.
Defending champion J.J. Henry, meanwhile, struggled, earning negative-3 points for making three bogeys in a round of 75.
