Merrick, others going low early

For a second straight day, conditions are ideal for scoring at Glen Abbey, and John Merrick is taking advantage of them.

Merrick is 6 under through his first 11 holes with four birdies and an eagle.

The hot start has Merrick tied with overnight leader and fellow Californian Brendan Steele, who doesn't tee off until the afternoon. Merrick is looking for his second win of the season after a victory at Riviera in February.

He's not the only one off to a fast start, though.

Charley Hoffman and Andres Romero are both 3 under in the second round and within one of the lead, while Gary Woodland, another stroke back, is 2 under so far in his round.
